I’m so excited to announce Sonja as our next Monday Mum. She is doing some amazing things out there. Take it away Sonja…
Hello! My name is Sonja and I live with my amazing family on half an acre of beautiful bushland in the Blue Mountains NSW.
My hubby (Alex), works for a very popular children’s entertainment company and is therefore ‘on tour’ 9 months of the year. We live for the moments when he is home in our midst, and support him on his journey when he is away.
We are a happy, fun-loving and tight knit family. My 3 year old daughter (Jessica) has a hilarious sense of humour and keeps us well and truly entertained with violin playing, princess dancing and rock’n’roll star renditions – complete with sunglasses, bandana and Wiggles Red Guitar. My 15 year old step son (Jonas) also lives with us. He is an amazing drummer, comedian and chef of 2 minute noodles.
We adore both of our children immensely, and feel so privileged to have them in our lives.
Where are you in your health journey?
From a physical perspective:
I recently discovered that my Mother has Celiacs Disease. Consequently, I began to take an interest in what this meant for her in terms of diet and life style. As Celiacs is usually passed down genetically, and I was trying for another baby without any success, I decided to eliminate gluten from my diet to see if this made any difference (infertility can be a side effect of gluten intolerance or Celiacs Disease). I didn’t fall pregnant, but I certainly felt a major difference to my health.
The following became apparent for me:
I no longer had digestive issues.
- Headaches disappeared.
- My skin began to get that ‘healthy glow’ and people began to comment on how healthy I looked.
- I began to sleep better at night.
- My energy levels improved
From an emotional/psychological perspective:
As a wee little one, I suffered with anxiety and the occasional panic attack. Living in fear 24/7 sucks big time, so a few years ago I decided to do something about it.
I introduced Mindfulness into my life!
By practicing the art of Mindfulness I have successfully eradicated fear from my life. By living and appreciating each moment, without judgement, I now live a fulfilling and amazing life. Fear no longer holds me back and I achieve (with gusto) ALL of my goals and heart desires.
By combining a healthy diet of home grown organic fruit and veggies, gluten free food with a daily practice of Mindfulness I am the healthiest and happiest I have ever been!
How has being a mum changed your health?
Being a Mum can be a stressful, exhausting, challenging and deeply exhilarating experience.
It can be a roller-coaster ride of intense joy, deep sorry, pain, guilt and love.
It is also be the most rewarding and wonderfully fulfilling train-wreck you will ever have.
Being a Mum however has definitely changed my health for the better. In order to be functional, available to my family and be a positive role model, I (on a regular basis):
- Practice self love.
- Cook and eat regular healthy meals.
- Get enough sleep.
- Improve my stamina, patience and stress management through daily practice of Mindfulness.
What is the dream you are aiming to achieve this year?
As a Social Worker / Counsellor and Therapist, I work 3 days a week for an organisation with families and children in crisis.
This year in addition, I have launched my new online business where I can take my work to the next level and help change peoples lives for the better.
I recently wrote a Book called Healthy Mind, Happy Body and an accompanying Workbook to support, encourage and inspire people to live the most amazing life ever.
My dream this year is to touch as many lives as possible through my website, blog and book and work towards a Mindfulness Revolution. YEAH!
It’s Tuesday night and you’re exhausted, what meal are you going to cook for your family?
Ahhhh…..this a frequent occurrence. Firstly I would throw on some gluten free pasta. Whilst that is on the boil I would go into the garden and pick some baby spinach leaves, kale, lemon sorrel and cherry tomatoes and make a yummy salad. Once the pasta has boiled I’d throw in some home-made organic pasta sauce (which I have stored in the freezer for such an occasion).
Meal on the table in 15 minutes!
