Last week I had one of those weeks where I questioned everything that I have been doing. Am I feeding the boys properly? Am I heading down the right path career/business wise? Are we saving enough money? Are we spending too much? The list went on. This just made me depressed and want to curl up in a ball.
I sat down last night to work out why I was feeling this way. I looked back at some of the events that happened last week but nothing looked too out of the ordinary. I then looked back at what I had been eating… BINGO! I realised I had started slipping in what I was nourishing my body with. It started with just a simple cheese toasty, I just love these (the taste not the feeling). After I had one I had the taste for it and had another a little while later. I then had some crap supermarket chocolate later, and a couple of biscuits. See where this is going?
I know that when I get a taste of processed foods, dairy, gluten, crap sugar, and other things I know my body hates, I just can’t stop!! Normally I may have a day of these foods if we are at someones house or going to a party. I can stop as soon as I get home. But last week this food seemed to creep into our house. Once it is in there I have to eat it!
I’m not that bothered by the effect this food has on my weight (although it doesn’t do me any favours!) but I know that if I eat gluten and crap sugar that I turn into a mummy dragon. I lose my temper very quickly, I have less patience with the kids and Andy cops it when he gets home from work. I also have weird dreams after eating sugar at night and the horrible stomach pains after eating dairy is never fun. Looking back at last week I was feeling all of those things all because I was eating all of these foods.
Today is Monday and I have started fresh. I used to eat a typical western diet (gluten, dairy, sugar, etc) all the time without any issues (because I didn’t know any better). Now that I know how truly amazing I can feel by nourishing my body with the best foods, when I go back to the old ways I realise that those mood swings and fatigue are not normal!
If you want to feel amazing and have energy all day long then you need to have a good look at what you eat. There is no ‘diet’ that suits everyone but you need to start checking-in with how you feel after you have eaten a particular type of food.
Do you feel:
– tired at 3pm?
– tired when you wake up?
– bloated? gassy? fat?
– sore joints? sore back? sore knees?
Then you really need to look at what you are eating. These symptoms are common but they are not normal! You don’t have to feel crappy anymore if you choose a different way of eating. It’s not difficult, I did it and I’m no different to anyone else.
What types of reactions do you have after eating certain foods? I would love to hear that I am semi-normal
